Instamix: Chicago Food and Fun

Hello everyone! If you follow me on twitter or instagram, you may know that I was in Chicago for the weekend. Although we had one good sunny and warm day on Friday, it was still an enjoyable weekend nonetheless. As you can see below, there were a ton of foodfesting as well as some exploring of the city. To those who live in Chicago, major props for having such a tolerance for the cold. =D

First – shabu shabu in Chinatown at Joy Yee Plus – I seriously could have this any day – hot or cold weather. However, there is another location nearby that serves all you can eat shabu shabu for the same amount of price at Hing Kee. I haven’t tried it yet but that’s on my list to try out next time I’m there!

Then we walked around Navy Pier after in my new Sam Edelman flats. I had no idea that these flats could be so comfy!

Then for dinner we stopped by GT Fish & Oysters for some yummy eats. Fair warning that the place does get really crowded so make sure you make reservations or you’ll be waiting like we did to grab a table near the bar area. After 10pm, raw oysters are half-off! =D The lobster roll was pretty good but definitely smaller than I had imagined – same thing for the crab cakes we ordered.

Met up with Hanh the next day and did some shooting around the area. Then she took me to Molly’s cupcakes where we shared the best eclair ever. So yum! Apparently they were on the show cupcake wars which I love to watch on occasions.

Then I’ve been trying to branch out more when ordering my usuall black milk bubble tea. Few months ago, I tried green tea smoothie one and that wasn’t so bad. Last week I tried taro and thought it was ok – maybe a little too sweet for my taste. Then I saw red bean with coconut in new Chinatown, Chicago and ordered that. I think it’s safe to say this might be my fave right now. The drink had flavoring of coconut and red bean but also there were chunks of red bean and tapioca balls at the bottom to eat – yummm.

Then met up with my friend in the area and she took us to try out these awesome Korean Tacos at del Seoul near Lincoln Park – oh wow. Yes these were definite yummies in my book and I’ll need to be sure to head back there whenever I visit Chicago. I ordered the shrimp and kalbi tacos – can’t go wrong with either of those!

Next day, woke up and went to the gym for a bit then packed our stuff to check out. We left our bags near the bag holding area at hotel which was nice and met up with another friend of mine for some yummy brunch. She suggested Wildberry Pancake & Cafe and man it did not disappoint. Hubby ordered the belgian waffles with strawberries.

I ordered french toast but in red velvet – oh hello. I think I will typically order anything that says red velvet next to the name. =P

Next, hubby and I strolled down Magnificent Mile to browse the shops. I only had one agenda on mind and that was to check out Pierrot Gourmet for some yummy macarons. These were definitely good, but I have a little place in my heart for Ladurée.

Finally last meal of our Chicago weekend and went to Joy Yee One to try out the food. I ordered the Thai lettuce wrap and just love the flavoring of the dish.

What a weekend and as you can see, I totally splurged on food! Gained 5 lbs so now it is back to healthy eating and working out at the gym 3x/wk for 30 mins each on the elliptical. I’m also going to add in some light weight training to my regimen as well to help tone up my arms. I am determined to get to my goal weight before summer is here. =P
